Tecate, Mexico Mission Trip

Nestled between towering boulders and miles of scrub brush, the mountainous town of Tecate is often overlooked for help because of its remote location.

Isolated from cartel violence, it is home to thousands who come hoping to find work near or across the U.S. border, but the low wages in the tourist or manufacturing sectors keep them near abject poverty.  Partnered with the people of Tecate and local churches, your Mission Discovery team will continue a 20+ year commitment to families through home construction and Children’s Bible School.

The last day of your mission trip is set aside for souvenir shopping and relaxing at the beach!  We'll visit a local craft market and spend time at the Pacific Ocean.

  • Lodging:  Teams are housed at a local camp in Tecate.  The camp is equipped with a pool, showers, bunk-style cabins, and has provided a safe enviornment for teams to relax and unwind after a hard days' work.
  • Food:  One of the experiences of every Mission Discovery camp is the attention to providing good food!  Breakfast and dinner meals are prepared buffet style.  Lunches are sandwiches on the worksite.
  • Transportation:  You can either provide your own transportation to and from the airport and your assigned worksites, OR you may choose to pay an additional $90 per person and be picked up at the airport in San Diego and have Mission Discovery transportation to and from worksites.
  • Daily Work:  Your team will build a home for a needy family.  The 12 by 16 foot home on a concrete slab is pre-cut and color-coded making this the perfect work project for teens or adults with little construction experience.  Expect to be part of leading a children’s Bible school that could attract over 100 children!

Written by Valerie from Somerset, Pennsylvania. Her group joined us for our annual Tecate, Mexico cut-out trip that kicks off each summer. "My team recently partnered with Mission Discovery in Tecate, Mexico for an incredible experience! We arrived Sunday evening full of excitement and anticipating all that God was going to do during our stay. We knew that our main purpose in Tecate was to pour concrete foundations for eight future homes, but we also knew that the Lord was going to work in ways we couldn’t even imagine.

From Maury Buchanan:  "Today I received this from Paige Wilson a past intern on a Mexico mission trip with Mission Discovery."   Meet my husband, aka Kentucky Boy.  The first time we spoke was over a table of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  It was like the Lord was laughing as He thought about our future family and how many conversations we would have as we spread peanut butter.

Mission Discovery is proud to know some amazing missionaries who have volunteered on several domestic and international mission trips with us. This month we’ll meet two of our most frequent mission trip volunteers and chat about their experiences with Mission Discovery. Meet twenty-seven year old Karla Rogers from Argyle, Texas. Q: How and when did you first hear about Mission Discovery?

When the team arrived in Jamaica the team exited the secure area of the airport together. The group leader was somewhere in the middle of the sea of yellow shirts. As they dropped their bags at the curb to wait for our bus the leader counted to three and the team shouted "FLEXIBLE!"

Work day #1 is complete and God is already started to do amazing things. We have 3 great churches and they are building 5 houses total. Today they all started work on their houses and got to know their families a little bit. We went out and did a little VBS canvassing for tomorrow and hopefully it pays off and we have a ton on kids there. I’m a little nervous about being VBS coordinator this week, but know that it’s what God wants from me at this moment. And what could be a bigger blessing than getting to hang out with a bunch of kids and teach them about God’s love?

Officially en route to Tecate! It was a bit of a rough start this morning. I woke up to find my face was puffy, itchy, and red. For some odd reason, we had no benadryl or any type of allergy relief medicine in my house at all so on the way to the airport we had to stop at Walgreens to pick some up. I get to the airport right on time (or so I thought) at 4:30 for my 6:30am flight. I get up to curbside check-in and find that there is no 6:30 am flight to San Diego. I looked back at my confirmation e-mail from Delta and the Sky Cap was right….I didn’t leave until 7:45am.
